Jax GPO tap into their Intuition

Touring Intuition Ale Works

(Adapted from Walt Whitman’s “There Was a Child Went Forth”)

“There was a child went forth every day;
And the first object she look’d upon, that object she became;
And that object became part of her for the day, or a certain part of
the day, or for many years, or stretching cycles of years.

The early lilacs became part of this child,
And grass, and white and red morning-glories, and white and red
clover, and the song of the phoebe-bird,

And the Third-month lambs, and the sow’s pink-faint litter, and the
mare’s foal, and the cow’s calf,
And the noisy brood of the barn-yard, or by the mire of the pond-
side,

And the fish suspending themselves so curiously below there–and the
beautiful curious liquid,
And the water-plants with their graceful flat heads–all became part
of her.

Our gracious host, Robin Rutenberg

This poem’s perspective of how a child looks at life is strikingly similar to how the ever-increasing collection of women who enjoy craft beer currently beholds the industry. We have our eyes open wide, reaching to touch, reveling in the taste, seeking new horizons.

The call went out – and it was answered – loudly.

Last night (Aug 15), the Jacksonville Chapter of Girls’ Pint Out gathered at Intuition Ale Works (720 King Street – 904.683.7720) for a “Tasting and Tour” Event which the folks at Intuition had earlier offered our Chapter. WOW! … the turn-out exceeded any of my expectations!

The best headcount I could put together had about 43 women and miscellaneous dedicated men serving as “designated drivers”. Companion refers to this service as “Driving Miss Crazy” and I did my best last night to make that description so very accurate!

Robin Rutenberg provided a most thorough tour of Intuition’s brew plant and detailed description of their process. Being able to experience first-hand the heat pervading the area where the magic is worked only made us all appreciate what the dedicated and talented brewing staff at Intuition go through each day they lay their hands on hops and malt.

Due to the large number of women gathered in solidarity, it had been decided in lieu of providing a flight of brews for each attendee, each lady received a sample glass and growlers of the following beer were used to distribute the delicious Intuition creations:

Belgian Hoppy Blonde

A refreshing hoppy Belgian with a funky, bright character.

Riverside Red

Aggressively hopped, high gravity amber ale. Brewed with two-row malted barley, caramel malt, and chocolate malt and hopped with Columbus and Nugget.

Fellow Jax GPO beauties enjoying the IAW tasting

DragonGlass

A black Saison brewed with Belgian Pilsner Malt, roasted and malted wheat, chocolate rye malt, Belgian candy sugar and German and Czech hops for a clean hop finish.  An unconventional and delightful twist to the classic Saison style!

The Liver Kick

A delicious Imperial Black IPA dry-hopped with Centennial and Nugget hops. This brew has a strong hop aroma and front-end bite, but leaves behind a smooth, chocolate finish.

The ladies of Jacksonville Girls Pint Out

My sincere appreciation to Robin, Riley,  Ben, Cari and the entire staff at Intuition Ale Works for opening your establishment – and your heart – to the Jacksonville Chapter of Girls’ Pint Out.

It is said that Nelson Mandela was quoted as saying:

There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”

In my opinion, this speaks well of the craft beer society which is beginning to embrace its newest child with love and respect – the growing and dedicated group of women who realize this world of craft beer is indeed their oyster.

Women, please consider yourself invited – and we all hope you join us – and rest assured each one of you will be welcomed, with raised pint glasses, into our fold.
